Historical Sketch of Our Church

Records of the District Association establishes that Mount Calvary was organized in 1902. A small Bush Harbor of the Florida East Coast Railroad was utilized for a meeting place. Reverend Brown (known as "Little Brown") became the first pastor.

Later the church moved to a small frame house on Third Avenue, now known as Esther Rolle Avenue. Services were held there until a parcel of land was donated by the Model Land Company; at which time a small frame church was erected on the site.

Under the leadership of Reverend Collie Pete, the present church site was acquired. On May 5, 1957, the members of Mount Calvary worshipped in our present facility located at 800 NW 8th Avenue.

Nine acres of land was purchased under the leadership of Reverend Samuel M. Collier. On July 1, 2004, Reverend Anthony Burrell assumed the pastorate of the historic Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Pompano Beach, Florida.
